Bye Medium

No offense, but it feels like someone took the money and ran

Gosh, I hate to bite the hand that used to feed me but it’s clear either Medium has genuinely run out of money, or, like many companies, greed is killing it.

Many have said it well, Medium used to pay a lot, now it doesn’t.

We also have to admit Open AI’s new language tool is so realistic, it makes it almost impossible to know if a human being is writing what we’re reading. If I told you I didn’t write this, would you believe me? I did write this, but do you believe me? Don’t underestimate the impact of this on Medium and other platforms where bots can now perform as well as humans.

In a nutshell I think Medium at one time had a manageable reader to writer ratio, but it seems we’re all writers now…..without the time or inclination to read anyone else’s work.

Will I ever publish on Medium again….maybe…but I’m much happier on Substack where my hundred subscribers have a vested interest in my writing.

I’ve cancelled my monthly $5 subscription and will miss many of Medium’s “stars” (particularly Lee Bidoski and Mark Tulin) but it just doesn’t make any sense publishing into the wind when I have an engaged, captive audience elsewhere.

To be fair, when I was “riding high” and making three figures every month, I was so…
