I never thought of it the way you framed it which makes perfect sense. "Practiced rage" is like the 3-year-old whose tantrums keep getting worse until they realize it won't get them what they want. Many men can learn this lesson by themselves but many never do. And I agree the adrenaline response is like a rabbit running from a tiger - reflexive and uncontrollable. I worry that "practiced rage" is being glorified, celebrated, and reinforced by our social media - I hope we can turn the temperature down in the popular culture but, in the short term, I'm not optimistic.
