“I’m Not Crazy,” Is Not A Winning Political Strategy
Democrats either start wading through the mud — foul language, stupidity, and all — or they will lose…it’s that simple
We’re in carnival barker mode in our politics
A polite, respectful attitude will not defeat a fired-up, energetic, popular movement. Almost any message said with enough fire and brimstone taps into our desire to be inspired by a charismatic leader’s emotional heft or soaring oratory.
Republicans have perfected the art of emotionally riling up their base over culture war issues like abortion, religion, sexuality, immigration, and guns. And they’ve learned to fight everything, everywhere, from local city mayoral races up to the presidency.
Where are the democrats when governors are introducing dramatic, draconian, or sometimes cockeyed laws through their legislatures?
When republicans pass voting laws and threaten Democrats with a “voting police force” their whole tone and language have to start matching the energy, absurdity, and offensive posture, of those proposals.
