Many men are monsters like the ones you described. To be crystal clear, men who abuse women should be prosecuted and imprisoned, period. Even misogynistic comments are unacceptable. That said, many men struggle to be the kind of man women want them to be - emotionally available, soft-spoken - with their desire to be thought of as strong, masculine, and tough. I believe there's a way for men to teach other men how to be respectful and empathetic to women while retaining their masculinity though it may turn out to be an impossible needle to thread.
