"Unprocessed trauma and resentment and anger seeping through"...perhaps that's true, though it would be at the subconscious level. As to being single (going my own way, as you say) I wonder - if like many late middle aged men and women - I am both happy and fulfilled as well as frustrated and resentful that I don't have a life long mate. Most of us need socialization as much as food and water.
