When Sex Is Off the Table

Women are my best friends

I love women.

I love their morality and ethics. I love their passion, their strength, and their courage.

I love that besides being subjugated, tortured, and treated as third-class citizens in much of the world, they fight — and many are willing to die for their equality.

But I digress.

Why do I say women are my best friends?

Because they generally do what I like the most in life.

Talk.

Not just babble, not just perfunctory ‘how ya doing’ stuff — my female friends and I talk, debate, and sometimes cry, for hours.

And, if only for a fleeting moment, we both forget our genders.

We’re just two people trying to figure out the meaning of life, moral hazards, and deep philosophical contemplations.

Just two besties on a barstool, sharing thoughts, ideas, sorrows, struggles, what it means to love, how important sex is, and bonding like two dudes — except one person is a “dudette.”

So why do I say sex has to remain off the table for these platonic male-female relationships to flourish?

I could be coy and say sex ruins everything but it’s much deeper than that.
