You Made Me Do It
If someone pushes your last button, do you have the right to fight back?
So that I’m crystal clear, I don’t care if someone is saying bad things about your mother. I don’t care if someone is disparaging your children.
I don’t care whether someone calls you a tight ass, useless, worthless, two-faced, smelly, putrid, awful at sex, or a disgraceful human being…you are never justified to commit violence against another human being.
Or are you?
While it makes sense to try to negotiate with a bully before punching them in the face, physical retribution can be justified if de-escalation fails.
With all those caveats in place, what should you do when someone is pushing your last button?
How many times do you have to turn the other cheek before it’s acceptable to lash back?
And what does lashing back look like?
I go to Starbucks, Barnes & Noble, and other public places where couples and families frequently gather.
The other day I was sitting next to a couple where the wife was pecking at and harassing her husband so ferociously I had to bite my tongue until blood nearly dripped down the back of my throat to stay out of it.
